10 Style Ideas to Steal from the Carrie Bradshaw Apartment

While I’m sure many of you were all over the fashion during Sex and the City’s heyday, I was all about the interiors – and no pad was better than Carrie’s!

Today on the blog I’m revealing 10 interior design ideas you can steal from the iconic Carrie Bradshaw apartment, that can be easily implemented in your own abode!

While she may have upped her style game once she moved in with Big (who I still don’t approve of!), I’m a sucker for her original home and love the sense of soul and character it evokes.

So let’s get you some of that Carrie Bradshaw apartment style…

Style Steals from the Carrie Bradshaw Apartment

design ideas from carrie bradshaw's sex and the city apartment

1. A rustic armchair.

Nothing screams ‘me time’ more than an armchair, and if you keep it weathered and worn like Carrie’s, you inject just the right amount of masculinity into the space without it going too Man Cave.

2. A vintage sideboard.

I have one of these in my own home and it’s undoubtably the star of the show. A retro item like the one above is ideal for displaying art, or if you’re like me, the perfect spot to place a drinks tray. If you’re on the hunt for a fabulous sideboard for your home, this post contains 14 amazing ones!

3. A desk by a window.

Take it from a blogger; there’s no better place to sit and type than by a window. Natural light flooding in is the best source of inspiration you’ll ever have. Take a look at your space and see if a change in floor plan could make this happen!

4. Off-centre Art.

I love nothing more than art that breaks the rules and Carrie did this perfectly above her bed. Consider placing your frames off-centre and benefit from making the space feel more relaxed and casual.

5. A chair as a bedside table.

My partner implemented this idea for years and it looks amazing. Carrie’s chair was weathered and rustic, but if you’re after something more modern it’ll work just as well. Top it with a stack of mags (or an amazing vintage phone) and you’re set! If you’re after some other alternative bedside table ideas, this post will help.

6. Lamps, lamps, lamps.

Carrie’s pad was drowning in lamps and I couldn’t get enough of it. Ditching the overhead lighting and utilising lamps in this way is great for setting the mood in a room. Mixing new pieces with vintage finds is a great way to add interest, too.

7. A shelf as a bedhead.

If you have an ensemble bed, consider pulling it out from the wall and popping a shelf behind it. Carrie did this and gave herself storage and the bed some definition. Shelves are as cheap as chips, too, so you gain a bedhead without breaking the bank.

8. Leaning artwork.

Carrie had a mountain of art leaning on the wall as opposed to hanging on it, and it’s a great tool to keep a room looking casual. It also allows you to move the art around the room with ease, plus you can use each art piece in a cute vignette if you fancy!

9. Books on display.

I myself have about four thousand interior design magazines around the house – as well as books – and I think having them out on display is a great way to make your home feel lived-in. Carrie’s place was inundated with reading material and it created a space that reflected her sense of style.

10. A bold wall colour.

Carries closet was splashed with a bold blue/grey and it just goes to show that veering away from the whites and beiges really pays off. As long as you ensure the area is kept well lit (be it natural or artificial), you can paint the walls dark no matter what size the room is. After some dark wall inspiration for your pad?
