Why I’m Gaga for Genevieve Gorder (And a look inside her New York home)
Everyone has a design star they’re particularly fond of and mine is interiors legend Genevieve Gorder. I first saw her on Lifestyle Home’s reality show Design Star (she was on the judging panel) and then discovered that she has her own home makeover show called Dear Genevieve. Since then I’ve been hooked on this gal – and in today’s post I’ll tell you why!
The different between Gorder and other TV interior designers is that she’s real. There’s no smoke and mirrors here. Dear Genevieve is a bit of a warts and all show; you see when furniture doesn’t arrive, you see when designs don’t work out and you see when the home owner’s are an absolute pain in the backside.
Below: These photos of her home from the Huffington Post demonstrate just how talented Gorder is.
Not only that, Dear Genevieve is hands-down the most educational interior design show I’ve watched because Gorder talks openly about design. This isn’t just a before-meets-after event; you see the design team sit around and discuss layout and composition, texture, balance, harmony – all the design terms some of the other shows glaze over!
Dear Genevieve is also an honest depiction of life as an interior designer. Sometimes, you purchase items and spend hours trying to get them to look right and they don’t. Things have to be sent back, entire walls repainted or tiles ripped up because now that they’re on the wall, they don’t look so amazing after all. If you’re wanting to become an interior stylist or designer, this is your fly-on-the-wall dose of reality. And personally, I adore it!
Genevieve Gorder (in case you ever read this) thank you for keeping it real! You blend the perfect amounts of honesty, information, education and inspiration – and the results are always spectacular!
